On Maxwell Dan Clark

When I think about Max, I think about the last time I saw him, which was a few months before he died. He and I were sitting outside by ourselves and he was pondering life and thinking that maybe he missed the boat because he hadn’t completed college.

I told him that life doesn't have to be on anyone's time table but our own and that although he may not know what he wants to do right now, it may just come by happenstance.

I then explained that I didn't grow up saying, "I want to be a union rep someday". It just happened. And we talked about how it was more important to like what we are doing than how much you were paid. That prompted more questions from him.

He certainly lived by the saying. "Question Everything!!"

On Monica Gray Clark

Everything about Monica was truly musical.

Her God given talent as a pianist was music to the ears.

Her whole being was music to one's soul.

The way she talked.

The way she laughed.

The way her eyes lit up when she told a story.

The way she embraced motherhood.

Monica was one of the most down to earth people I know. She treated everyone the same and didn't think she was better than anyone. With Monica, what you saw was truly who she was. She was an honest, kind and caring person. We may not have seen one another very often but the times we shared are memories I hold in my heart.

Whenever I hear music from a windchime, I smile because I know Monica is here with us.
